It’s been a week since I listen to this album, and I am told that I would not have to chronicle. Too much, too much difficulty to step back to analyze … it will build a labyrinth excellently, which is already contributing to the preservation of capital sympathy that I maintain for the duo. Subjectivity, when you hold us.
Both Ways Open Jaws itself as the perfect archetype of the genre Alternative, grazing the musical trends with glee without ever deigning to attach, tracing the tracks for the listener before divert maliciously. The album cover illustrates one of the first reactions that can have the guy who discovered Dø for the first time, a kind of misunderstanding accompanied by grotesque facial expressions, for a “wtf? “Masterful. But over time something is drawn, a thread as they say, and Dan and Olivia cover the same form a “d” as the thirteen tracks on the album do what it is. The “O”, meanwhile, is right there on the jacket of Olivia, as everything seems within reach of each song without that we take one second to enter anything. This interpretation is not universal, I had just something interesting enough to be developed to close this section … it was not so bad, is it?
I do not much choice as first single Slippery Slope. For many other titles could have subsistuer tribal trip to the MIA, unconvincing in EP distributed a few months ago. I think of Dust It Off, a piece of insane lyricism, which carried by a neat clip could have its effect. The bet was, however, dare I admit readily, and am not here to repeat all of the comm ‘group.
To return to the album itself, one could almost split into two structures. The first, which covers the first seven titles, this pretty song “conventional” (relative to what comes next and the tab group, of course), with their wealth and their personality, then likely to reach the greatest number. The second, meanwhile, begins with BWOJ, title track of an energy efficient and formidable, that could have lasted twenty minutes that I do not flinch for a moment. It opens a “second album” (great! A new wrapping paper). Pieces shorter, more refined, reading much more difficult … Find an anchor point then we are hard, but it is the undeniable advantage of surprise. This is absolutely not applicable to all the songs, but who expected to Quake, Mountain, Quake, as a half-sung, half instrumental? Which provided the silences of Moon Mermaid? Could it be that in our opposition are emerging “two ways to open the jaws”?
Despite these contrasts, the whole is an amazing harmony. We note the gradual Gonna Be Sick, tight rope and tightened until the last moment, which is allowed to burn slowly until the acute explosion. The magic happens in a much more rapid than the first album, which was often transitions and passed from one genre to another drastically. Here the tracklist is very well thought out, so I feel I let myself fully on board where they wanted (more unconsciously than consciously, no doubt). But I had prepared the ground: A Mouthful, the EP … I thought I was well armed to the teeth for any understanding of a few readings … nay! Defying the codes, Both Ways Open Jaws makes me forget the first fears Slippery Slope – even passing a lot better with all – and gives a true meaning to the term “creation”. As you throw the stigma often lead on the second album, The Dø scans debate thirteen tracks destructured sometimes, sometimes spellbinding …
